Change of Travel Plans

So I was thinking about visiting Japan in June and Malaysia whenever my summer break is, but I've decided to focus my energy on saving as much of this salary as possible. So Malaysia will have to wait, and Japan might actually happen in August. Why do I say this here? Oh just so you know when to expect the photos ^^. Maybe I should just add photos to my Flickr account, instead of "blogging" about my travels though. Hmmm a thought.

Alive and Safe, I Got A Job

So hmmmm I'm used to doing what other people want me to do (even if I don't always do a good job at it >.<)
But since I've been in Korea and primarily alone (I am a English teacher here, I just started from Feb.) I've been able to focus in a way I haven't in months. Having all this alone time has really allowed me to reflect and get more in touch with my (as Ms. Oprah would say) authentic self. At first I was terribly lonely and wanted to leave!! But now I am fine and more adjusted. I hope I don't get too adjusted though because I've decided that next year this time I need to be in New York networking away.

I was thinking about the best places for me to be in terms of career development and continual mental sanity and NYC although it's expensive it offers me comfort and career development opportunities out of this world. My back-up is either Atlanta or Los Angeles but I'm also thinking that having a back-up location might be detrimental to the continual advancement I want to take towards moving to NYC. Someone suggested I go and concur the Broadway stage because there are not a lot of people who can do Broadway, but I am one of them. Of course I felt this was an amazing compliment but musical theater is not exactly my number one goal. However if I were to be casted in any ongoing production musical or not at this point in my career it would be only a benefit.

OK but let's get to the topic at hand here. Drum roll please ........I'm going to move to NYC after my contract is over here (Feb. 2012) and I'm going with the mentality to go for my dreams-for real! What do I mean by this? Well I'm going to take all of my savings (oh this is RISKY but it is what I WANT to do) and I'm going to move to New York holding tight to my dream and not looking back. I'm giving myself a year to be there looking for entertainment based work only and within 6 months if I have no apparent successes then I will begin to prepare myself to teach English overseas again, as well as apply to various full-time opportunities in NY. I am trying to build a career and I know that is not something which is going to be easy, but I have never given my dreams my compete and entire attention, focus, or energy so I have decided to.

Please send me prayers. And continue to support my endeavors. I haven't nearly expressed my appreciation enough, but every single message and word of encouragement, support or complement has helped me and affected me in the most wonderful of ways.

My UPCLOSE Videos

Yesterday I realized my goal of 100 or more videos was a bit ambitious! Even so, I still want to aim to accomplish my goal. Today I saw the video of a girl who reminded me of myself. She also recorded her video up-close. I realized sometimes a bit more distance is better. Recording a video too close doesn't always make you look good. (Get what I'm says?)

There was a time when I wanted to record a video up-close to hid my fat! hehehe Then it became just easier since I was the cameraman and the person being videoed. Up-close videos meant close ranges, which meant no running from behind the camera to the place I was to be for shooting (remember I'm not yet using any editing software for my videos because I didn't want to may money!! My camera's record in.MOV files and I work with a PC!!)

I also realized sometimes when people video blog it easily gets boring--unless their funny or talking about some personal experiences. I'm funny! Just not in Japanese >.< , so I'm going to share personal tidbits about my life, thoughts, and questions. And start uploading karaoke videos where I look and sound good!! That should make up for all my make-up-less, up-close and personal, not so flattering shots. hehehe

I got a job offer!!!!! (In Korea, but not with the EPIK program, but still AMAZING)
I accepted it, but since employment doesn't commence until April, I'm still looking around for more opportunities.

I made a new YouTube channel OliviaNoLie.

I quit using English in my other YouTube channel AmericajinYumi.

I'm looking for a blog site that will allow my friends in China to few (blogger is blocked there), I'm still going to blog here. I just want to be able to share with those friends too.

So in the last week or so I showed my friend AisB a video of Jero's Umiyuki and she said in a serious definite tone "That's your husband right there." I responded by a roar of laughter it was seriously funny!! I never even thought of that once.

I've been thinking about connected my Twitter account to this blog, but I'm still not so sure about it. Hmmm

I've been seriously agonizing over a stage name. -_- Friends who know my full name please send me a private message/email of sorts and give me your advice. Or leave a comment that's like "use your last name and your first name." There's something about my entire name being online that doesn't make me feel good so I've been trying to avoid it at all costs.

I've recently fallen in love with the music of Kimura Kaela and like Koda Kumi and Utada Hikaru I noticed her cd on display and posters about her release while in Japan didn't give her a second thought, got back to the US got my hands on some of her work and began a fan~ ♥

I don't really like the fact that I have to have a separate google account associated with each of my YouTube pages, that's kind of annoying for me. oooo speaking of YouTube I got a notice that I am now allowed to upload up to 15 minutes of video, is this the new norm or was I allowed a special privilege? I'm glad my channel is getting more popular with time. I hope my video quality continues to improve accordingly too. I've been meaning to invest in some video editing software but still haven't. I may but that for myself after I start teaching. Someone whose videos I enjoy say that they are using Adobe Premier Elements 4 and that it's for beginners and basic to use, but that they would upgrade, they just don't have money yet. hehe They said it sorta jokingly, but I could relate!! I'm thinking about buying the exact same thing, hopefully I can get my hands on a secondhand ultra reduced price one. I don't think Adobe is actually making any new PE4. They're on PE9 the last I checked. Since I'm still using XP I doubt my computer's system will be too advanced to be compatible with it--at least I hope not.

I'm excited about it, grateful for the opportunity and sincerely hope I will knock the socks off my interviewer so that she (I have been in communication with her all ready) can confidently recommend me to the higher ups in Seoul.

The Never Give-Up Spirit

So in all honesty many of my application materials I need from school had not yet been received via mail in time for me to turn in a completed application by the initial due date. Although I had succumb to some levels of procrastination in terms of failing to complete my essay since I had not yet received transcripts and the like from my university, I did have a bit of good sense in me and made sure to read EVERYTHING regarding notices and deadlines on the official EPIK site. Well let me tell you, I saw that there had been an application deadline extension and remembered it in the back of my mind so I contacted the appropriate person who I had previously emailed with when I had a question about that application process and asked it this could be applied to applicant going through the same consulate office I was as well. Well low and behold I received an email back in a bit more the 24 hours indicating to me that I should send in what I did have and my application process would be taken from there. The whole moral of this story is that I tried my best, sincerely and worked hard to make something happen for myself which I wanted in the depths of my being and although things were not going smoothly I didn't not completely give up and now I have something to show for it! Yes ladies and gentle men I have an interview next Tuesday at 2 PM with my local Korean Consulate!!!

I don't think many ppl are following this blog so I'm going to export all my posting up until now to my main blog, and when I get to Korea consider picking up where I left of then ^_^.

The Current Job Hunt

All my eggs in one basket?--I think not!
So I've got to make it clear that not only are there many things I want to accomplish in life, but I've decided that I WILL accomplish many things in life. I heard once from a women who I would label as 'successful' that "you can do it all, but not all at the same time." Well so I'm applying to many things, even though I had an incredibly awesome interview yesterday, and even though my immediate plan would be to participate in the EPIK Program and spend a joyously wonderful year of my life in Korea --I've still gotta keep myself out there!!

So I'm / will be applying to

The EPIK Program -->Korea
Peace Corps (even though I told them I would be available to go overseas from April 2012) --> Many places / どこでも
The JET Program (from next year, assuming I'm not so in love with Korea I wouldn't be able to fathom living elsewhere. --> Japan
Amity (A school exclusively for children under AEON) --> Japan
BorderLink (ALT (Assistant Language Teacher) recruitment and placement) --> Japan
Gaba (Honestly, I've heard a lot about this option that leaves me with less than desirable ideas about life as an employee, but it's a step closer to where I want to be.) --> Japan
HESS -->Taiwan

In terms of international employment options Japan is by far leading in terms of opportunities I am aware of, but I'm open to traveling to other places and learning something new almost anywhere. ^_^

Picking My Preference for Location

So given a total of 7 Provinces, 7 Cities and only 5 Preferences to chose from I would say it took me what seemed like well over 30 minutes to decide which 5 would make it to the preference sheet. I have still not yet chosen the order to place these in besides thinking that Jeju would be my top choice. I'm still working on it though. I chose out of the provincial offerings Chungbuk, Gangwon, and Jeju, and of the city offerings Daegu, and Daejeon. Honestly sooo many of the options looked seriously appealing and that was the main reason it took me so long to narrow them down. I felt like a women who works in the UN screening applicants, there really were sooo many qualifying options narrowing it down was truly difficult. Or course this ultimately led me to desire to live in Korean even more than I was initially because now I could seen more clearly just how vase the array of wonderfulness in the country is. Well I could read it.

Deciding that incorporating possible increased salary due to living in more rural areas was really me being money hungry I ignored salary (some what) and looked into possible city placements as well as provincial ones. Also a Korean friend of mine who I attended university with encouraged me to chose to live in a city if I wanted to hook-up with other people in our organization, participate in activities and possibly know someone who spoke English. Even though her suggestion that I not pick middle school as a choice other than last for age group placement was something I chose not to do.

I need to re-read the location bios offered by the various POE offices on the EPIK site and chose from there messages the order of the locations. Those messages were the same messages with has be selection the locations I did. I felt wooed and sincerely wanted. &hearts; That's the way I like to be pursued ^_~

The Best Interview EVER!!! // *TBA

Today I had the best interview ever, I'm not even absolutely sure if I'll be joining the pay role or not--but it doesn't even matter, this was my BEST interview without a question.

So I applied for a part-time instructor position for this organization which works with schools in the Chicagoland area to conduct classes and workshops for kids on financial literacy and entrepreneurship. I applied weeks ago, and was contacted by the women who runs this program last week inquiring if I was still interested in the opportunity and if so, setting up a date a time to interview. Well I was so very much so STILL interested (I have no job remember--wait, I never mentioned that on this blog actually. *To Be Address [*TBA] on Another Post) and I let her know so, she told me she would be conducting interviews on next Monday, which would now be yesterday and that she had available times for both 1 and 3. Now I of course being as desperate but now more knowledgeable about myself since multiple past experiences with failed interviews. *TBA and I told her I was open for both times so whichever one she preferred would be more than fine with me. She said 3, I thought 'Score!!! My kind of woman!' and confirmed a bit more and talk a tad bit about myself and how I found out about her organization.

We exchange emails, or rather she replies to my initial email which included my resume and cover letter with an email confirmation of out appointment time as well as a document I could use to help prepare a mock less (I'm interviewing to be an instructor for children remember). Fast forward to the interview. I arrive early. 'YAY!!! Another score!!' and sit down (We meant at a Barnes and Noble Cafe) 15 minutes passes now it's 3:01 I get a phone call asking if I will be able to make the interview (I wanted to call first but forgot to store her number in my cell--> one of my usual faux pas / mistake and happily indicate that I am in fact already their but have not seen here and must then be in the wrong section. Well we both look around a spot each other, I let her know I'm coming over to her table immidiately.

The interview commences in a somewhat awkward tone (you know that initial mandatory hand shake is still funny feeling for people you have never met before, even if it is the most appropriate gestures for such times. And then the best conversation flows from that initial awkward handshake. Ahhh the effort you put into things--anything really do have payoffs. I was able to talk about myself and do my lesson then hear about her and ask questions, and while doing all this reflect on myself practice my interview etiquette and be inspired like I just stepped out of class with my favorite professor!

This women was able to reignite my determination to be a professional performer/entertainer, own my own business enterprise, apply for the Peace Corps and found out about a program with pays for the tuition and room and board fee for minority students in business school in one sitting. In total with were talking for about and hour and forty five minutes, towards the end I was losing a bit of eye contact with my responses (hey it's been a while_ but all in all I'm absolutely confident I did a good job but even more so confident sitting down and meeting with this women was good for me. That interview did me good!! And to think I was nervous about it and getting jitters! Oooo I would've almost canceled (I have a terrible self-sabotage habit) but my friend works for her and I didn't want to make here seem less credible in front of her boss because I was experiencing about with low confidence and she also happened to have threatened me that if I missed another application deadline (or interview) she was going to "whoop" my "ass." *_* Making my friend look bad / irresponsible and having to answer to her after I torched another one of my opportunities was something I could just not do!

So as promised moments a go I will now right down all the needed materials for the application to be considered complete. While I do this my time might be better spent actually completing my essay--or starting it, but I want to do this now while I'm thinking about it. I like to keep my promises!

So I'm just now thinking that I actually already wrote this down days ago for myself from the suggestion of a friend (AisB) and before she encouraged me to do so I had a mini-version which, doesn't even compare to the one I developed post her loving nudge for me to get myself and this application together.

Hmmm I'm not sure how I'm going to address this is a manner that screams "this person is brilliant we must have them in this program teaching our kids!!" but that is the reaction I'm hoping to receive from my essay.

So, I'm applying to many programs and doing various things, but let me be for sure I make it clear that I'm going to be a international star (singing sensation, acting diva, who knows!) and I'm going to be active if not based in Japan!! Yeah it's not the usual route but it's what I want and so I just want to let that out.

This post is an opportunity to become a more courageous person who fearlessly pursue their passion and develops themselves into a skilled craftsmen of whatever their chosen trade may be.

Just this past week a friend told me "Singing in Japan would be great for you. It would combine both of your interests." And another friend "Once you're in Japan it'll be much easier you'll have access to more opportunities." Hello wonderful blog world and hello beautiful readers.
I am a recent college grad who has been unemployed for over 6 months now...wait wait wait--wrong blog, let's try this again.

I am a recent college graduate who has put serious thought, wonderful Buddhist prayer (I chant), and sought counsel into helping me decide that teaching overseas was something I most certainly would ~~like~~ love to do. Although I had decided this months ago, see video:

It have proven to be harder than I expected it to me. :( But then again since I'm having to work so hard for it, won't it then mean that I'll appreciate it more ^_^
Well my dear readers that is all for now. I shall be back and I shall blog often and frequently.

I realized yesterday, or was it the day before...when I was making my new JET blog that Blogger now let's you change your sites url, and all I'm saying is--I wasn't aware of this before. In fact I think I even attempted to do this before but to no luck : ( Well now that I've changed mine I'm going to write more, and more freely. Tumblr is still cool, but this is more my speed for sharing personal revelations and experiences versus sharing what I liked about this thing and that which may be connect to me but is not a direct product of me i.e. excessive reblogging. :/ I would totally do without it. Now I understand why my tri-state friend isn't big on Twitter, some things just really aren't everyone. Even though I should have made this observation with my own lack of liking for the oh so famous Facebook. I'm going to stop dropping names now. I seriously am under contract with no one for endorsement deals, and am not interested in free advertisement as of now.

I've been unemployed for months now, and that really hasn't been fun, however *drumroll* I'm making sure I have the appropriate application materials together to apply to JET and I'm EXCITED about it all. I did a bit of serious thinking and I think doing the "JET Programme" now, versus going straight for a masters degree in TESOL will allow me to grow in some phenomenal ways and help spruce up my graduate school applications!

The bottom line got down to this, once I have participated in the JET Program if only for one year I will be a more impressive applicant to whatever graduate school program I chose to apply to because I will have more to offer; in terms of experience and people behind me (supervisors and such) to verify how legit, serious, and hard working I am. (as of now, not as of my undergraduate days ...)And seriously I believe a me post-JET will be a better than me than a me without JET. Not that anything is wrong with me, but JET will provide so many opportunities to overcome hardships, to grow (I'm using this vague word again), and to learn more about life and myself--just by being open to it.

Yeah I'm thinking about making another YouTube channel and Blogspot blog just o document this journey, but remain anonymous like saying no name, no initials, no nothing!!! I would make it mostly for me and family, but then also have it public so that other people if they so choose to and read an watch videos on my experience as a JET. I want to be more open than I was during my study abroad I want to share, but not too much. I'm not trying to open the door for any potential stalker to get through or anything along those lines!

Is being famous a good/fun thing?

I was becoming a vegetarian, but I changed my mind. Right now with cafeteria food being my main source of nourishment it would be just abit too difficult to incorporate enough protein in my diet and please my palate with the selections I've come across in the dining hall. Now don't get me wrong there are options just nothing as the whey protein shake I envision for myself when I go back home to Chicago. Or the option of just eating meat, and since eating meat equated to me having more protein in my diet than me not, I'm just going to stay a carnivore for now.

Also I'm thinking about establishing a weight loss blog!! No not my youtube page but a real written blog~~~

I experienced my first earthquake today!

At first I thought my roommate had company (am I wrong for that?), but then I realized the floor was shaking; the way it does when you ride a train but have to stand up because there are no seats around and no available spots to hold your hands for support.

I'm happy it was just a minor quake, at least compared to how far I think I was from the epicenter, but I feel a bit irresponsible because I couldn't remember what I was supposed to do!

The professor was a scholar who has been working at the Standford University in their writing department for quite some time. She seemed distinguished and kind. I was inspired to write my capstone/senior thesis with the mindset oh 'how can i include rhetoric?!'
